PERNEM
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar on Tuesday said he is ready to lead the MGP party in the State, if he is given the responsibility by the party’s central committee.
“The central committee of the MGP party will decide who will lead the party. However, if senior leader Sudin Dhavlikar decides that I should be at the helm, I am ready to lead the MGP party in Goa,” said Arolkar on Tuesday.
Amid the sparring between alliance partners, BJP and MGP, over claims to seats in the 2027 assembly polls, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, however, said he wanted to focus the next two years on development in his Mandrem constituency, instead of indulging politics.
“I am giving priority only to development for the remaining two years and no politics is being done. If we want to do politics, let’s do it six months before the elections,” said Arolkar, while speaking to local journalists.
“This is not the time to move from one party to another. This is the time to develop Mandrem constituency. A right decision will be taken at the right time. The projects that we have submitted to the government in the last three years have gained momentum and through those projects, we want to transform Mandrem constituency in the remaining two years.”
“A multipurpose playground and indoor stadium will be built in Mandrem. Apart from the Ravindra Bhavan project, an aquarium project will also be built in Mandrem constituency, said Arolkar.
The MLA expressed confidence that after these projects come up, local unemployed youth will get opportunities.
INCOMPLETE PROJECTS
Commenting on the status of incomplete projects, Arolkar said the construction of the bridge connecting Keri and Terekhol has been held up in litigation, while the Tuem Hospital will be completed shortly.
“Initially, some NGOs had filed a petition in court regarding the Keri-Terekhol bridge, and the verdict went in favour of the State government. Some NGOs then filed a petition in the Supreme Court, and the matter is again in court. Which is why, the bridge is partially completed.”
“If the court delivers a verdict in favour of the government, work on the bridge can be restarted immediately. In the meanwhile, we have met with residents of Terekhol to discuss about this incomplete bridge,” Arolkar said.
Regarding the Tuem hospital, Arolkar said the Tuem Hospital Action Committee is working to get hospital started.
“The hospital which is partially completed will be ready shortly and we have been assured that key facilities will be provided in the hospital. We have also discussed the matter with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and local unemployed youth will also get employment opportunities at the hospital,” Arolkar said.
“About 450 jobs will be available at this hospital and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has assured us that priority will be given to providing maximum jobs to locals,” said Arolkar added.
