With less than a fortnight to go for curtains to come down on the beach shack season, shack owners at many a beach belt has started dismantling the beach shacks.
The shack owners now look forward for the new season, earnestly hoping that the government come up with the tourism policy on priority so that the beach shacks are allotted by July end so that the shack owners obtain the necessary permissions in the month of August ahead of the new season beginning from September 1.
The shack owners are also looking forward to the government to scrap the model shack and invite the shack owners for discussions on the matter.
Work on dismantling many a beach shack along the the Cavelossim-Mobor beach, considered the hub of resorts, have got underway.
President of the Goa Shack Owners Society Cruz Cardozo, who operate a shack at Mobor, said shack owners doing shack business at the Cavelossim-Mobor beach belt always dismantle shacks around mid-May every year for want of business.
Saying the tourism season has been neither bad nor good for the beach shack owners, Cardozo said beach shack business has not gained momentum post-Covid pandemic.
“Comparatively, we had done moderate business last year. But with the opening of international flights, many an Indian tourists is believed to have headed to tourist destination outside India this year,” he said.
The Shack Owner Society president said the government should come out with the Shack policy at the earliest.
“Since the next three months is a lean tourism season, we hope the government will set in motion the process the unveil the new beach shack policy. If the policy is finalize in the month of June, we can hope to get the shacks allotted at least by July end. This will help the shack owners to obtain the permission and erect the shacks well before the new season starts on September 1,” he added.
