PANAJI: In yet another incident of attack by a ferocious dog, Vinil Salgaonkar, a local from Assagao was attacked by a Rottweiler late last night. The victim sustaining severe bite injuries to his left leg. Anjuna police have registered an offense against the owner Sham Govekar.
According to the victim's brother Sunil, the incident occurred around 10 pm.
In his complaint to the Anjuna police, Sunil said that the dog was not properly restrained by the owner Sham Govekar and this lack of control led to the attack. Vinil was rushed to the Siolim Health Center for medical treatment following the attack.
Sunil added that the dog’s aggressive behaviour had caused physical and emotional distress for his brother and their family. He also pointed out that Rottweilers are classified as a dangerous breed due to their aggressive nature, and it is prohibited to keep them in some areas. Despite this, Sham Govekar had continued to keep the dog in an unsafe manner, putting the public at risk.
Sunil further mentioned that this same dog had previously attacked their sister and demanded justice.
North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal confirmed Sham has been booked under Section 291 BNS 2023.
"the accused kept his Rottweiler dog unleashed and failed to take necessary precautions against the probable danger to human life. As a result, the dog attacked the complainant's brother, Vinil Salgaonkar (40 years)," he said.
