Say outpost has failed to deliver

Against the backdrop of the daring theft at the Regina Martyrum High School at Assolna, residents along with the Velim MLA Cruz Silva have called for a separate police station at Assolna, saying the police outpost has failed to cater to the requirements of the local populace.
In fact, the residents and the MLA have found to their shock and disbelief that the Cuncolim police, which has a huge jurisdiction, is equipped with a lone vehicle, hampering the mobility and quick movement of personnel in emergency situations.
The Velim MLA said the Cuncolim police station is grossly understaffed, saying the Cuncolim police station is in need of minimum 20 police personnel. “I had raised the issue of manpower shortage last year after my election as Velim MLA. Till date however, the ground reality has not changed for the better,” he lamented.
Raising the demand for a separate police station at Assolna by upgrading the police outpost, the MLA said the Velim police outpost has been rendered defunct for want of manpower and other logistics. “Since the Cuncolim police station has a huge jurisdiction, prudence demand bifurcation of the Cuncolim police station into Cuncolim and Assolna by upgrading the Assolna police outpost”, Cruz demanded.
