The Kasarvarne Bailpar river in Pernem taluka has been flooded due to the incessant rains, and the water flow from the bandhara has been stopped due to wooden logs, causing danger to farms and homes in the area.
The river gets flooded every year and houses in the area get submerged. This time the pump house is under water. It is to be noted that the Water Irrigation Department had spent Rs 27 crore to build this pumphouse earlier this year on the river bank.
However, as the level of the pump house and the river is equal, the water flow was disrupted. The safety wall of the bridge has collapsed and the service road is endangered too.
The government should immediately look into this matter and save life and property, appealed local farmer Uday Mahale.
“The locals never demanded any pump house on the river bank, but the government has built it without taking into consideration what the locals wish. The pump house is meant to supply water to the proposed projects in Pernem, but the locals were not taken into confidence before the construction of this pump house,” alleged Mahale.
He also added that the locals demanded a bigger bandhara to replace the smaller one already existing on the river bank, but this request was sidelined and a pump house was built here.
