BELAGAVI:
In wake of rising traffic congestion which is leading to the rise in number of major and minor accidents, the City Police Commissioner has announced restriction on the entry of heavy and multi axle vehicles entering from Goa and Karwar and from the eastern side of the city.
To ensure smooth traffic flow avoiding congestion and with an intention of better safety for commuters, especially the school children, office goers and workers commuting towards Udyambag and other industrial areas, Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang has announced a revised restriction on heavy vehicles within city limits with immediate effect.
As per the orders heavy and multi axle transport vehicles (HTVs) weighing over 3 tonnes are now restricted from entering city areas from both the sides from 7 am to 11 am and 3 pm to 8 pm in the evening. “These restrictions, effective under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1938, Vehicle Rule 221-A(5), and the Karnataka Traffic Control Act, 1960, apply across all city roads, including those in the Belagavi Municipal Corporation and Cantonment areas,” the Police Commissioner said. However, the National Highway-748 (Pune-Bangalore Road) is exempted from this ban, he said.
The restrictions however do not apply to essential service vehicles, including school buses, milk trucks, vehicles carrying petrol products, urban transport, and sugarcane transport trucks during harvest season. “Light vehicles under 3 tonnes carrying fruits and vegetables are also permitted to enter city limits during these hours,” Police Commissioner Marbaniang clarified.
Meanwhile, Belagavi police have also upped their vigil against the Goa liquor making way to Maharashtra via Belagavi in wake of the ongoing assembly elections in Maharashtra.
