Belagavi city will be out of bounds for Goan visitors on Tuesday due to several Ganesh immersion ceremonies and processions from afternoon.

Tuesday is also a weekly holiday for the Belagavi market.

A massive police deployment has been made across Belagavi city on the occasion of immersion of hundreds of Ganesha idols installed in public places.

According to Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang, 562 home guards, 200 police constables, 130 PSIs, 109 police inspectors, 31 DySPs and six SPs will be deployed to ensure law and order during the procession of idols which marks the end of 11-day Ganesh festivities in Belagavi city.

Speaking to media persons, Marbaniang said his department had made elaborate arrangements all across Belagavi to ensure a smooth movement of the procession of idols, which was expected to last several hours through Tuesday night until the next day evening.

The commissioner also held a meeting of officials of his department on Monday to review the preparations made in the city.

Since the last two days, the police department has been making route marches in all sensitive and hypersensitive areas from where the procession will pass through.

Several teams of the police are patrolling the interior areas to take stock of the situation.

At least 517 CCTV cameras were installed in many parts of the city for surveillance and drone cameras would also be used during the procession to keep a strict vigil of the procession’s route.

The commissioner also welcomed the decision of Muslim organisations to postpone the procession of Eid Milad which was supposed to be held on Monday in Belagavi.
