The Shree Renuka Yellamma Devi Temple, which is one of the most visited spiritual destinations by Goans including Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant and scores of pilgrims will be getting a major facelift as Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the development of the temple.
The Centre has sanctioned the amount under its ‘Development of Iconic Tourist Centres of Global Scale’ initiative. The project is part of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – 2024-25 scheme.
Belagavi MP and former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for approving the project. He highlighted the temple’s cultural significance and the need for better amenities to support the large number of devotees.
Last month, Shettar met with Shekhawat to advocate for the project. The temple is one of two religious sites in Karnataka selected under this scheme.
The grant will fund the development of essential infrastructure at the temple, aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and improving facilities. Shettar stated that the initiative would benefit thousands of devotees from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa visiting the site annually.
