The Benaulim panchayat on Monday inspected a mobile tower construction site in the village following strong objections raised by the residents of the area.
What’s interesting to note is that ex-MLA Churchill Alemao’s son Savio and nephew Warren Alemao rushed to the site to take up cudgels for the residents opposing the tower in the residential locality.
While extending their full support to the local residents objecting to the tower, both Savio and Warren demanded that the “social media” MLA should come and support the residents and scrap the tower from coming up in the residential locality.
Sarpanch Vencila Fernades, panch members Menino de Bandar and David Fernandes along with the Panchayat secretary Arjun Velip conducted the site inspection where the company has laid the foundation stone for the tower.
The owner of the property where the tower is coming up told the residents that he does not want to go ahead with the tower construction, but said the issue would be discussed with the cellular company.
While appreciating the gesture of the landowner, Warren said the owner should try and get the tower shifted to a non-residential locality in view of reservations raised by the residents. He, however, sounded a warning that the people would also move the authorities if the company obtain a single-window clearance for the project.
