President of the Cuncolim Chieftain’s Memorial Trust, Oscar Martins blamed Uday Bhembre for trivialising the historic 1583 Cuncolim revolt as a kestanv, petty fight.
“Bhembre sabotaged all attempts to recognise the 1583 Cuncolim revolt and get it introduced it in the school curriculum. So many Chief Ministers have come and gone in post-Liberation history, but it is the incumbent Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who not only got the Cuncolim revolt introduced in the school curriculum, but has got the revolt recognised at the National War Memorial in New Delhi,” he said.
Oscar warned: “Cuncolkars are peace loving people. But, just because they have kept aside their talwars, no one should try to belittle the historic Cuncolim revolt and the sacrifices made by the valiant Chieftains. We will not spare anyone.”
Vijaikumar Kopre Desai demanded apology from Uday Bhembre for his remarks against Shivaji Maharaj and for trivialising the historic 1583 Cuncolim revolt. Freedom fighter Rohidas Dad Desai was amongst those who spoke on the occasion and condemned Uday Bhembre’s remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji.
