BELGAVI
Bishop of Belgaum, Rev Dr Derek Fernandes, has stated that the pilgrimage is a true and deep experience of faith and hope.
Bishop Fernandes, who visited Old Goa on Tuesday to venerate the relics of St Francis Xavier, was speaking to The Goan.
“During the veneration of the relics of Goencho Saib, I felt extremely devotional. As you stand before the relics, you feel the aura of St Francis Xavier, who died in China and was buried, then later exhumed and brought to Old Goa around 452 years ago. Yet, the body remains intact. More than that, there are numerous miracles attributed to the Great Saint, which is why lakhs of people visit the Exposition to pay homage to Goencho Saib,” Bishop Fernandes said.
“As we enter the Jubilee Year, this pilgrimage to Old Goa has been a great experience of faith and hope in Lord Jesus Christ, especially for the people of the Diocese of Belgaum,” Bishop Fernandes affirmed.
