A day after BJP announced to strengthen its base in all 40 assembly constituencies; its ally Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Wednesday said that the BJP high command will take the decision in the interest of the State and currently “all is well” between the coalition partners.

Tension continues to flare between BJP and MGP over the alliance for the next assembly election as the BJP State president Damodar Naik now said that the party will strengthen its base in all 40 constituencies and the decision will be taken at the right time. Unrest within the coalition was evident following Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement to retain Priol constituency and no one should interfere.

Following this, MGP supremo and Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and party president Pandurang ‘Deepak’ Dhavalikar met BJP general secretary organisation B L Santhosh in Delhi.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Sudin said, “We have briefed everything to the BJP central leadership…clear message has already gone to CM from them…Central leaders will decide in the interest of the State.” He was reacting to future alliance goals.

“All is good…well between us (BJP and MGP),” he commented.

Earlier speaking, Deepak said that a meeting with B L Santhosh was held to discuss the ongoing political situation in the State. “I am not blaming CM…we don’t know what made him make such a statement…looks like he has been misguided by someone,” he said.

Deepak said that in the interest of Goa, Hindutva and India, BJP and MGP alliance is very important as both the parties share similar ideology and have got a large chunk of Hindu vote base.

He said that the BJP central leadership has assured to conduct constituency-wise survey before deciding on seat sharing for 2027 assembly election. “Seat sharing will be completely based on that survey,” he said maintaining that there is no injustice meted out to MGP neither there are any attempts to merge the party.

Referring to Priol constituency, Dhavalikar said that his visit to the constituency is only to meet his party workers and has nothing to do with me trying to interfere. “It’s a constituency ruled by BJP and we are their alliance partners. We have made several promises to our workers, which we have to fulfil,” he said.
