On Saturday, the Congress staged a protest, claiming that a BJP flag had been hoisted on a makeshift pole at the compound wall of Navelim Panchayat.
South Goa district Congress president Savio D’Silva, along with local Congress leaders Savio Coutinho, Zacaris, Melvyn, and others, gathered near the flagpole at noon and demanded the immediate removal of the flag.
D’Silva questioned whether it was appropriate for a political party’s flag to be displayed near a government or self-governing body’s property.
Savio Coutinho echoed these concerns, asking, “What message is the BJP trying to send by hoisting a flag at the compound wall of Navelim Panchayat?” He too called for its immediate removal.
The flag, which had been flying from the makeshift pole for several days, was taken down by Saturday evening.
