BJP karyakartas accused of being involved in drug trade

Former North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike along with NGDCC chief Virendra Shirodkar addressing the media in the party office in Mapusa on Saturday. Agnelo Pereira.

The Congress on Saturday said for most BJP leaders, Goa was a party destination and they came down to either have fun or to set up business in

the State.

The former North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike also alleged that BJP karyakartas were involved in drug

trade in Goa.

“Robberies, murders and rapes are on the rise in the State while the BJP-led government are organising parties and doing business. Most of the BJP leaders from other States come to Goa to have fun or to do business. What has Sonali (Phogat) done for Goa? She is a leader of the BJP. That’s it. She died of drug overdose,” Bhike alleged.

The ex-NGDCC president was addressing a press conference in the presence of North Goa District Congress Committee President, Virendra Shirodkar in the party office in Mapusa.

Continuing, Bhike alleged that the BJP karyakartas were very much involved in drug trade along the coastal belt and the police were aware of the nefarious activities of the karyakartas.

He said the Goa Police was under pressure and were unable to take decisive action in drug-related cases due to involvement of influential BJP workers in the business.

“Some years back, a large amount of Ketamine was found in the factory belonging to a senior BJP party functionary from North Goa. No action was taken against the leader and the case was pushed under the carpet,” he said.

He further said that police arrested drug peddlers who get released the next day and the whole thing is forgotten thereafter.

“Even when police prepare to raid a particular place for a drug-related offence, the accused get information about the impending raid before the raiding team reaches the spot,” Bhike said.

He said Curlies nightclub became infamous for drugs during the reign of the BJP in the State.

“Everyone is aware that a former BJP MLA was very much involved in promoting Curlies along the Anjuna coastal belt,” he alleged.

He said like Curlies there will be many more pubs and nightclubs along the coastal belt which must be involved in drug-related business.
