PANAJI: Ahead of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday, BJP National Secretary Alka Gurjar has accused the Congress party of neglecting his contributions both during his lifetime and after his death.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji today, she alleged that Congress never recognised Ambedkar’s contribution towards nation-building even while the party was in the ruling for six decades.
"It failed to honour this maker of the Indian Constitution," Gurjar, also a former MLA from Bandikui, Rajasthan, alleged, adding that Ambedkar was denied a memorial in Delhi and his photograph was not displayed in the Parliament Bhavan. Moreover, the neglected memorial in Mumbai is being renovated by the BJP.
Gurjar further highlighted that the BJP embraced his ideology, citing initiatives like "Antyodaya Yojana" and "Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas" whereas Congress used backward communities as "vote banks."
BJP State President Damodar Naik emphasized the party's successful outreach initiatives in Goa.
"After the Sthapana Divas programme on April 6, the BJP karyakartas went door-to-door hoisting flags and carried out the ‘Swacchata Abhiyan’ (cleanliness campaign), ‘Gaao/Basti Chalo Abhiyan,’ and ‘Chaupaal’ for the next few days. Goa stands first in the country as far as the Sthapana Din programmes are considered." Naik said.
BJP General Secretary Narendra Sawaikar also announced a two-week series of events in Goa from April 13 to April 25, including the reading of the preamble of the Indian Constitution.
