BJP upset with extortionist activists, supports amendment to Comunidade land laws

PANAJI: At the backdrop of activists criticizing  various government initiatives and decision, BJP State Unit has come down heavily on what it calls 'so-called activists', accusing them of acting as extortionists.

BJP spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar expressed concern over growing number of activists misusing their platform for personal gain.

Addressing a press conference in the party head office today, stated that while the party is open to listening to genuine activists, many are now posing as experts in various fields and often acting as extortionists under the guise of activism.

BJP spokesperson Yatish Naik, also present at the briefing, hailed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's stern action to ensure strict implementation of tenants verification law. "This law is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of Goa’s residents, prioritizing public safety across the state," he said.

Naik further supported the government’s amendment to the Comunidade land laws, which he believed is a positive step towards protecting land managed by the traditional Comunidades. He dismissed opposition criticism of the amendment, accusing them of making baseless claims.

Vernekar also responded to recent controversial statement by ex-RSS Goa Chief made by Subhash Velingkar regarding St Francis Xavier. The BJP leaders advised those offended by Velingkar’s comments to file a police complaint if they feel necessary.
