Mapusa police have registered a case against a Bengaluru resident, Venkatesh Hegde, for allegedly committing forgery, impersonation and cheating in connection with a property dispute involving 2,000 square meters of land in Nagao, Bardez.

The complaint was lodged by Sajive Bhatia, a representative of a Gurgaon-based private company.

According to the complaint, the accused impersonated the rightful owners of the property prior to May 18, 2022, and forged their signatures to execute a fraudulent sale deed before the Civil Cum Sub Registrar at Bardez.

The property in question is identified under survey number 51/24 in Nagao.

Police allege that Hegde used the forged documents to claim ownership of the property, depriving the lawful owners of their rights and cheating both the complainant and the rightful property owners.

An offense has been registered against the accused under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 464 (making a false document), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine), and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

Mapusa police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
