Educates them about safety measures to follow

In a commendable initiative, the Calangute Police have intensified their outreach efforts by visiting senior citizens residing within their jurisdiction to raise awareness about cyber-crimes and personal security.
As part of this community-focused programme, police officers have been going door-to-door, engaging with elderly residents to educate them on various safety measures.
This proactive approach aims to bridge the gap between senior citizens and law enforcement, fostering trust and a sense of belonging.
The officers have been providing crucial information about common cyber-crime tactics, such as phishing scams, fraudulent calls, and online financial fraud. They also shared tips on safeguarding personal information and securing devices to prevent cyber-attacks. Additionally, the outreach included guidance on personal security, with advice on staying vigilant and avoiding potential threats in daily life.
This initiative is part of a broader programme launched by Goa Police several years ago to establish regular contact with senior citizens.
The programme has been implemented across multiple police stations in the state, with each station tailoring the outreach to the specific needs of its local community.
Speaking about the initiative, a senior officer from the Calangute Police Station stated, “Senior citizens are often more vulnerable to certain types of crimes, particularly cyber fraud. By reaching out to them personally, we not only aim to educate them but also build a stronger connection between the community and the police force.”
The outreach effort has been well-received by residents, who appreciated the police’s effort to ensure their safety and well-being.
Many seniors expressed gratitude for the personalised approach, noting that it helped them feel more secure and valued within their community.
By maintaining a consistent and proactive engagement with senior citizens, the Calangute Police aim to enhance their safety, empower them with knowledge, and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment.
