Quick action by the Calangute Police led to the recovery of a bag containing cash and valuables worth Rs 1.71 lakh from a tourist taxi and it was later handed over to a tourist from Chennai.
On Tuesday evening, Chennai tourist T Reena had arrived with his family to Goa and had travelled by an app-based tourist taxi in Calangute. In the commotion, one of his bags was left in the car and the tourist taxi left the place.
The bag contained valuables worth Rs 1.71 lakh, which included a gold chain worth Rs 37,000, cash worth Rs 1.19 lakh and a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000. Realising that the bag was left behind in the car, the tourists rushed to the Calangute police station.
The police acted quickly and traced the taxi through the app. By then, the car had reached Vasco. The police summoned the taxi driver back to Calangute along with the missing bag, which was then handed over to the tourist, T. Reena.
The family expressed their gratitude to Police Inspector Paresh Naik and Assistant Sub-Inspector Naresh Kumar Salgaonkar for their prompt action which led to the recovery of their bag.
