Social activist Anthony D’Silva has called for the installation of the statue of the Father of Opinion Poll, Dr Jack de Sequeira at a prominent place in the villages of Assolna, Ambelim and Velim.
In this respect, Anthony has submitted petitions to Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Velim ZP member Juliao Fernandes and the sarpanch of Ambelim Alexander D’Silva to start the process to install the statue of Jack de Sequeira.
“This is to request you to start and complete the process documentation-wise to get the statue of Dr Jack Sequiera legally installed around the panchayat of Ambelim. Considering the umpteen contribution and sacrifice to save Goa from getting merged with Maharashtra,” he said.
He added: “Dr Jack de Sequeira deserved to be recognised in many different ways. Erecting his statue will be also a befitting recognition. I hope you will do the necessary formalities following the due process. I also follow up through your staff with the panchayat of Ambelim”.
Saying it would be nice if the funds could be arranged either from the MLA fund, Zilla funds or the panchayat, Anthony however said the expenditure for the statue will be borne by the people of Ambelim if the funds are not forthcoming.
