MARGAO: After the Konkan railway police booked a person in the Thivim child abuse case, women and children rights activist, Auda Viegas has called upon the police to investigate the case thoroughly to expose the underbelly of such activities on Goan soil.
Addressing the media, Auda has called upon the law enforcing agencies to initiate preventive measures to prevent sexual abuse of children.
Calling for stronger law enforcement and surveillance, she has demanded strict monitoring by the railway protection force for in the trains as well as on the railway platforms. Besides, she has called for digital surveillance by the authorities to track online activities of suspected paedophiles, using the internet to lure children.
Harping on community awareness and reporting, Auda has underscored the need for parents to be made aware of the tactics predators use to lure children by offering gifts, rides, coercion etc.
As far as parental supervision and digital safety, Auda has stressed on the need for monitoring of both online and offline activities, saying parents should be aware of where their children go and who they meet.
Auda said the Konkan railway police, Margao deserved congratulations for rescuing several women and children, besides detection and recovery of theft cases and for their sensitivity in handling such cases.
