CANACONA
Stating that Covid cases in the taluka have reached beyond control, Canacona Nagrik Samiti (CNS) has demanded a Covid care centre with an Oxygen facility in Canacona to cater to the needs of the infected patients.
"Our active cases have shot up above 500-mark, and except for a few hospitalizations, most of the positive patients are under home quarantine. Since we are over 40 km away from the nearest Covid centres, anything can happen to a positive patient while transportation to far off distances. It is, therefore, felt that a Covid care centre must be started with oxygen and other medical facilities within the taluka. We have also informed our MLA, Isidore Fernandes, who said he'll speak to the Chief Minister about this need," said BJP Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat while speaking at the meet organised by CNS, at Chaudi on Sunday.
Speakers have demanded that Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello, who have full knowledge of the prevailing situation in Canacona, should push for the creation of a 50-isolation room/Covid care centre with oxygen and other medical facilities to treat Canaconcars without wasting time.
Speaker also complained that there is no free flow of Covid-19 information, and many people within the affected areas are kept in the dark, even leading to free movement of infected patients.
"Councillors or pancha's are made aware of cases within their areas to help them to keep watch, but sometimes infected persons move out unprotected and spread the virus," asserted Chaudi councillor Ramakant Naikgaunkar.
They have also sought an action plan from the taluka authorities while demanding that the MLA and municipality should pursue the matter on the action plan for '24-hour ambulance, medication at doorstep, isolation and treatment ward for Covid patients in Canacona with oxygen, vaccine registration help/online, vaccination camp at various centres, helpline numbers, food supplies at doorsteps to the affected.
Meanwhile, Covid cases continue to rage on as 35 more cases were detected on Sunday in Canacona.
Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares informed that 10 patients have been discharged from Home Isolations, while 35 fresh cases were detected on Sunday. With 10 recoveries, the active cases still remain over the 500-mark and stand at 564, with the overall Covid cases in Canacona at 1,576 as on Sunday.
