Canacona locals slam RG for outburst against MLA

CANACONA
Former MLA Vijay Poi Khot, Canacona-based group ‘Jagruth Canconcars’ and local leaders took umbrage at alleged derogatory statements by a Revolutionary Goans leader against Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes.

They have demanded a public apology from Revolutionary Goans leader Manoj Parab, failing which they have threatened to prevent Revolutionary Goans from staging any rally in Canacona.

Addressing a news conference in an open space at the Old Bus Stand at Chaudi in the presence of a large number of people who came to show their solidarity, the speakers slammed the Revolutionary Goans leader for his alleged disparaging remarks against Fernandes.

An audio clip of Parab addressing a meeting of Revolutionary Goans during a recent Canacona rally was played on a sound system.

Condemning the use of foul language against an elected representative, Khot said, “One doesn’t become good by speaking bad about others. Bring out the shortcomings, but do not call names.”

BJP Block President Nandip Bhagat said the people of Canacona are respected people and while they may have political differences, it did not warrant derogatory remarks against the MLA.

“Unless you take back your words don’t dare to come to Canacona again. We are ready for you.’

Former CMC chairperson Simon Rebello warned that they would not allow Revolutionary Goans Rally to complete their rally from Shristhal to Polem.

“They must apologise first and only then will we allow them to complete their rally,” warned Rebello.

Former CMC chairperson Nitu Desai, Loliem-Polem former sarpanch Ajay Lolienkar, Sidhu Desai, Samrat Bhagat and Shantaji Naikgaunkar were among the other speakers at the news conference.
