The one-and-a-half-day Ganesha idol celebration at Bhagtipurush Mutt is a long-standing tradition of the Bhagat community, marked by deep devotion and joyful festivities.
On Saturday, the ‘Bhagat Kutumb’ from Bhagatwada near Char-Rasta in Canacona welcomed the Ganesha idol to Bhagtipurush Mutt. The serene weather added to the community’s joy as the idol was immersed on Sunday evening.
Sunday also featured Neyachi Parab, a special Bhagat community tradition where each home ties a ‘Neye’ to symbolise family bonds and unity. The community gathered for Puja before the Ganesha idol as part of this cherished celebration.
Vikas Bhagat, a member of the Bhagat community, said, “The festival of Neye, woven into our lives for so many years, is a testament to the strength of our ‘Bhagat Kutumb’.”
Bhagat also noted that ‘Neyachi Parab’ is a unique celebration for the Bhagat community, expressing hope that this sacred tradition continues to promote brotherhood and unity, preserving their cultural heritage for future generations.
