With no help and assistance forthcoming from the government, the Cavelossim gram sabha on Sunday has given a nod for the deployment of private security to crack down on beach hawkers.

At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by  Sarpanch Dixon Vaz, the gram sabha members were informed of the Panchayat decision to deploy three private security personnel on the beach to tackle the menace of beach hawkers and massage men doing illegal business and disturbing the tourists who are resting on the beach beds.

Sarpanch Dixon told the gram sabha members that he has written to the government couple of times on the issue and even spoke to Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte to provide tourist  police to keep the beach hawkers at bay.

He, however, lamented that  nothing has been done by the government till date, leaving the Panchayat with no option than to engage the security personnel to drive away the hawkers.

The issue of pollution water at Mobor was raised at the gram sabha meeting.  The Sarpanch informed the members that the panchayat will write to the Goa State Pollution Control Board to take necessary action on all the violators who discharge the waste in to the river Sal, right from the wholesale fish market till Betul.

Dixon further said that he has received feedback from tourists on footpaths, garbage and broken glasses on the beaches and lack of public transportation for tourists, promising that all these issues will be taken up with the government for redressal.

The gram sabha also discussed various issues related to village development and tourism related matters.
