Tourism and environment related issues took the centre stage at the gram sabha of the coastal village of Cavelossim on Sunday.
The contentious issue of stray dogs on the beach belt also figured prominently at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Dixon Vaz.
Gram sabha member Roy Barretto raised the issue of the coastal zone management plan by requesting the Sarpanch to follow up with the government to send the CZMP draft plan to the panchayat before it is finalized. In this respect, the Sarpanch has agreed to write to the department.
Former Sarpanch Edwin baretto suggested the panchayat to work out on ease of doing tourism related business so that applying of NOCs on early basis can be dropped.
Sarpanch Dixon assured to call for a special meeting with all stakeholders to discuss in detail all tourism related issues.
The Sarpanch highlighted the issue of stray dogs issue that has been affecting the tourists and locals.
A request was made to the villagers and the starred hotels to donate a small piece of land to set up a dog shelter or cages to house the strays.
Villagers also highlighted the frequent power cuts, affecting the locals as well tourists related business.
Sarpanch Dixon warned the owners who are renting rooms or apartment without police verification or panchayat permission, saying strict action will be taken as per law if any one fails to do so.
Gram sabha member Francis Rodrigues highlighted the issue of dengue and malaria, stressing on the need to take the issue seriously and educate people how to take precautions.
