Saying that a disaster is in the making in the river Sal, the Cavelossim Village Panchayat has sent a letter to the Captain of Ports, pleading to tow away the fishing trawler stranded in the middle of the river in a sunken state.
In his letter, Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz pointed out that the vessel is posing serious problems for fishermen as well as the boats plying in the area. The Sarpanch drew the attention of the Captain of Ports to the fact that when the government had cleared the Cutbona fishing jetty of old and junk vessels a couple of months ago, some of the boats were then anchored on the Mobor side of the river.
“Now, we can find one of the boats sunk in the river and it is posing a danger to the locals, especially the cruise boats that are plying in the area, which could lead to a disaster,” he said.
The Sarpanch informed that he called the Captain of Ports, Octavio, and requested that the boat be cleared as soon as possible to avoid any accidents. “Our locals are using the river for boat cruises, and we need to act to avoid any untoward incident,” Dixon added.
