PANAJI
Work on a temporary shed to house the fish market in Panaji has commenced at the same old location, and officials of the Corporation of the City of Panaji are hopeful that vendors will be relocated there by mid-February.
The CCP demolished the multi-storeyed building that housed the meat stalls, as well as the adjacent fish market shed, in late September, where it plans to build the third phase of its new market.
Meanwhile, a new makeshift shed was built a few metres away to provide temporary shelter and space for fish vendors to ply their trade.
However, the meat and poultry vendors who were displaced by the demolition of the 1980s-built multi-storeyed market building are yet to be provided with alternate space, despite a directive in a Bombay High Court verdict, which the civic body has challenged before the Supreme Court of India.
