The Central Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved investment of up to Rs 2,228.78 crore for flyovers, road widening, culverts and land acquisition for the ongoing upgradation of highways and related spill over work in Goa.
A communique to this effect was dispatched to the Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) of Goa Public Works Department (PWD) by the MoRTH's Mumbai regional office on Friday.
Of this massive Rs 2,228.7 crore spend, 690 crore is for road widening, 600 crore is for elevated corridor of highway and Rs 922 crore for land acquisition.
Included among the approved plans is the Rs 600 crore flyover at Porvorim, a Rs 361 crore 4-lane road connecting Navelim to Cuncolim and Rs 135 crore spill over work of the NH4-A four-laning project around the new higher level Khandepar bridge.
At Porvorim, the approved MoRTH plan for 2022-23, cites a 4-lane 'elevated corridor' (flyover) of approximately 4.6 kilometer length. It has approved Rs 600-crore for this work.
The approved plan mentions Rs 361-odd crore approved for the four-laning of existing Navelim to Cuncolim section of the NH-66, an approximate length of 6.9 kilometers.
Additionally, another Rs 298 crore is allocated for land acquisition related to the Cuncolim bypass.
For land acquisition related to the spillover work of 4-laning of NH4-A, Rs 360 crore has been approved for the Borim bypass.
For the Cortalim-Nagoa-Verna section, Rs 40 crore has been approved for land acquisition purpose.
Another major highway upgradation project which has got substantial fund allocation in the plan is the highway stretch of the accident prone Karmal Ghat stretch in Canacona.
The plan states that Rs 177-odd crores are allocated for the stretch from the Karmal Ghat right up to the Goa-Karnataka border at Mashem.
Rehabilitation of an existing culvert and construction of a new one along the Karaswada to Bambolim stretch of NH-66, construction for connectivity from the Margao Wholesale Fish Market to the existing NH-66 at the South Goa Collectorate and merging of left out portion at Dramapur village are the other minor works that have got specific fund allocation.
These smaller works have got an aggregate allocation of about Rs 16 crore.
