Centre proposes to develop Goa as a Global Cruise Hub

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal today announced the Centre's plan to develop and promote Goa as a Global Cruise Hub.

Addressing the Maritime States Development Council meeting in Goa, Sonowal also informed about plans to develop Mormugao Port into an eco-friendly port in the near future. He also said that the proposed dome facility at MPT will help in stacking coal and this substantially reduces coal pollution.

Earlier, the Goa government urged the Centre to sanction an additional nine community jetties under its ambitious Sagarmala project.

In his address, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted the importance of developing the state's maritime sector in a bid to preserve Goa's rich maritime heritage.

Sawant mentioned that Goa is working closely with the central government's initiatives, such as the Sagarmala program and port development projects, which aim to boost the maritime infrastructure.

Later Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira took the opportunity and urged the Centre to sanction nine new community jetties under the Sagarmala project.

He said that these jetties are expected to enhance connectivity and support the state's coastal areas and those dependent on it.
