The Chicalim Panchayat on Tuesday conducted a site inspection of construction activity at Gina-Chicalim.
In a letter to the Chicalim panchayat on October 8, Chicalim Youth Farmers Club Secretary Chelsea Fernandes claimed that to the best of their knowledge, construction activity at a site in Gina-Chicalim did not have licences to carry out the development.
Fernandes requested the panchayat to stop the ongoing work and to conduct a site inspection.
Responding to the CYFC letter, the Chicalim sarpanch in a letter dated November 2 informed the party concerned, Aleixo Sequeira, that the complaint was placed in the panchayat body meeting on October 18 and the panchayat members resolved to issue a stop work cum site inspection notice.
Accordingly, the panchayat issued a stop work cum site inspection notice, directing Sequeira to stop the construction activity.
The panchayat also fixed a site inspection on Tuesday at 3.30 pm and directed Sequeira to remain present at the site along with the relevant documents and approvals to justify the construction activity.
On Tuesday, the site inspection was attended by Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, Panchayat Secretary Rajat Parsekar, Ward member Roman Vaz, panch Maria Mascarenhas, CYFC members and some villagers. Sequeira was represented by his son.
During the inspection, the son claimed that the construction work cannot be called illegal.
The CYFC members sought to know whether unauthorised constructions could be permitted by bypassing the village panchayat.
While Panch Member Roman Vaz claimed that the construction is illegal, the Panchayat secretary Rajat Parsekar said it could not be called illegal but unauthorised.
Alleging that the plan shows a violation of ODP plan, Vaz further questioned about approvals from the MPDA and said he would take up the matter in the next panchayat body meeting.
The CYFC is now awaiting the panchayat inspection report.
