Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was among the galaxy of leaders to felicitate KLE Society Chairman Dr Prabhakar Kore on his Amrit Mahotsav celebrations at a mammoth gathering in the District Stadium here on Saturday.
Union Minister for Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan was the chief guest, while others included Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai and leaders from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.
Stating that Dr Kore was not a person, but an institution, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Dr Kore is a living institution and a people’s movement, which has transformed society not just in Karnataka but across the nation.
“The philosophy of Dr Kore to take education at a new level through his group of institutions adheres to the National Education Policy, which aims to take the best of education to all corners of the country,” said Pradhan, lauding the role of Dr Kore.
Delivering his speech in Marathi, Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted a strong bond between Goa and the people of Belagavi. He also lauded the contribution of KLE Society in building career of thousands of students in Goa.
“When Goans had questions about higher education, KLE was an answer. I would like to acknowledge the valuable contribution of the people of Belagavi during Goa’s Liberation Movement.”
“At the same time, I also appreciate the contribution of Dr Prabhakar Kore and KLE Society that has groomed a large number of doctors, engineers, physiotherapists and other professionals who are successfully practising in Goa.”
“The sprawling KLES campus is the gift to the people of three states,” Dr Sawant said acknowledging services of Dr Prabhakar Kore and his visionary efforts. He also felicitated Dr Kore on behalf of the people of Goa.
Former chief minister of Goa Churchill Alemao also felicitated Dr Kore and wished that Dr Prabhakar Kore will celebrate his centenary.
“I strongly commend the monumental contribution made by Dr Kore in the fields of education, agriculture, healthcare services and the cooperative movement,” Alemao said.
Union Minister for Parliamentary affairs Prahlad Joshi, former Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa, Maharashtra Minister for Revenue and Animal Husbandry Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, former Karnataka Minister R V Deshpande and others also spoke.
Dr Kore was also weighed with books to mark the occasion.
Churchill’s presence draws attentionBELAGAVI: The presence of Goa’s former chief minister Churchill Alemao at the felicitation of KLE Society Chairman Dr Prabhakar Kore in Belagavi drew considerable attention on Saturday.
The South Goa heavyweight, who has a large number of friends and well-wishers in Belagavi, also made his presence felt by the short and crisp speech in his typical English.
The affection between Dr Kore and Alemao was visible as both shook hands with each other with warmth and respect for each other.
