Has the Tourism Department any plan in place to spruce up the children’s play items at world famous Colva beach?

Local residents of Colva have posed this question to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte as the children’s play area has been craving for attention for want up of regular upkeep and maintenance.

That’s not all. The authorities seemed to have not learnt a lesson from the death of a tourist from Rajasthan due to electrocution two years ago at Colva beach after he came in contact with a live electric wire of an ornamental lamp near the children’s play area. In fact, wiring of an ornamental lamp right near the children’s play area was found exposed with locals fearing that it may prove costly for the children playing in the garden.

Local resident Simon Rodrigues told the media on Tuesday that the children’s play items installed at the garden have been craving for upkeep and maintenance. “Some of the items have been lying in a damaged state. This may cause injuries to the children of tourists visiting the garden,” he said.

He added: “Colva beach is a world famous beach, attracting hundreds, if not thousands of visitors every day. The broken and damaged children’s play item does not augur well for a tourist village such as Colva. When the children of tourists visit the play area, they will certainly carry bad memories back home.”

Simon and other local residents have demanded that the Tourism Department pay urgent attention to the children’s play area on the beach.  He also made a fervent plea to the Tourism Department to fix the electricity issues in the children’s play area. “A tourist had lost his life two years ago at Colva beach after he had come in contact with live electric wire of an ornamental lamp,” he added.
