Chinchinim villagers too called off their proposed agitation near the St Sebastian Chapel junction along the NH66 on Sunday in view of the appeal made by the Church arm, the Council for Social Justice and Peace.

A large posse of policemen were deployed along the NH66 as a precautionary measure. Police reinforcements from other police stations were brought and deployed at the traffic junction.

Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who addressed the citizens, explained in detail the sequence of events in the case since the last three days. The MLA recalled that he along with citizens of Velim constituency had lodged a complaint with the Cuncolim police demanding FIR and arrest of Subhash Velingkar.

Saying the police has registered a FIR against Velingkar based on a complaint lodged by him, Cruz said Velingkar’s bail plea will come up for hearing on Monday and hence appealed to the people to maintain peace and calm.

Ex-Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barretto, who addressed the citizens, called for restraint in view of the FIR registered against Velingkar and the appeal made by the Council for Social Justice and Peace to maintain calm.
