Claims on 4 lakh sq mts of govt, Alvara land settled

Mamlatdars in Pernem and Sattari have settled claims of individuals, families and other entities and granted them 'Class I Occupants' status over an aggregate 4 lakh square meters of land which was either government-owned, Alvara lands or 'aframento' leases.

The titles of "Class I Occupancy" were granted in quasi-judicial proceedings over the last three years since 2022, according to information furnished to the Goa Legislative Assembly by Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate.

Multiple parcels of land ranging in size between 9,000 odd square meters to 60,000 square meters have thus come to be title-owned by these individuals or families in Pernem and Sattari.

In one case related to 60,000 sq mts in Velus, Sattari, the beneficiary is the Goa Archdiocese with the 'Class I Occupancy' title bestowed on the Patriachate of East Indies, Panaji, Goa.

In another case at Arambol, Pernem, 53,000-odd sq mts of land has come to be 'owned' by four Virnodkar siblings and their individual nuclear families with the 'Class I Occupancy' title granted to them.

Another parcel of 57,000-odd sq mts again in Arambol was similarly given a 'Class I Occupancy' title in favour of Madhu Krishna Virnodkar and two others.

Elsewhere in Pernem, 9,000-odd sq mts in Paliem has got one Janardhan Vishnu Gondlekar as its 'Class I Occupant'.

Meanwhile, Monserrate said the government collected some Rs 2.25 crore in fees for the re-classification from Class II to Class I Occupancy in these dozen odd cases.

In yet another case, the 'class I Occupancy' title was granted for 51,000 sq mts of land at Mandrem to "Gabriel Fernandes and 12 others". Four other parcels of land in Mandrem aggregating 1.4 lakh sq mts was also thus allocated with 'Class I Occupancy' titles.
