Cleanliness drives conducted across Canacona taluka

The birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated with great enthusiasm in entire Canacona taluka recently.

Many villages took part in ‘Swatchta Hi Seva’ cleanliness drives in the morning, while some institutions organised events and garlanded of portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Canacona BJP Mandal celebrated the birth anniversaries of both leaders at the BJP office with Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Mandal President Vishal Desai, and other office bearers and activists garlanding the portraits of both leaders.

Canacona Congress Block led by its President Abel Tome Borges garlanded the portraits of Gandhi and Shastri, and later along with members, participated in cleanliness drives in the area.

Chaudi Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar organised cleanliness drive in Kindlem, Mangan, Pansulem and Chaudi, with the participation of students of Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya, Jijau Mahila Mandal with its president and former CMC Chairperson Prathanna Naik Gaonkar, Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya Chairman Darshan Naik Gaonkar, KBM teachers, councillors Amita Pagi, Narcisco Fernadis and many citizens of the village.

A cleanliness drive was also held in the office and surrounding areas of the Canacona Mamlatdar office. Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, Talathi Rohidas Gaonkar, other officials and employees of Mamlatdar office and Deputy Collector office participated in the cleanliness drive.

In the Chaudi, a cleanliness drive held under the leadership of Ward Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar. A large number of people from Chaudi ward participated in the cleanliness campaign from Sheler to the Canacona Kalangan (Ravindra Bhavan).

Parishioners of Agonda Church under different Somudais held cleanliness drives in the entire village and collected heaps of large garbage bags.

The cleaning drives were held in areas, particularly where a few residents regularly discard their waste and garbage, despite the fact that the panchayat has made arrangements to regularly pick up garbage from houses twice a week.
