CM reviews preparations for St. Francis Xavier exposition; Pope's attendance unconfirmed

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reviewed the preparations for the upcoming exposition of Saint Francis Xavier, providing updates on key developments and plans for the event.

While the invitation has been extended to Pope Francis, Sawant emphasised that the Pontiff’s attendance is still uncertain. “We have sent an invite to the Pope, it is up to him if he will be able to make it,” Sawant said.

Sawant announced that various officers will be designated for different functional areas, saying, “We have decided functional areas, and after the committee meeting today, functional area heads will be decided. We will designate an officer for each functional area.”

In collaboration with the Church, the government will soon launch a web portal to facilitate pilgrim registration. Sawant explained, “All pilgrims can register on this portal, wherein the government can facilitate accommodation and help people in any way.”

The Chief Minister assured that top-notch safety and security measures will be implemented, with special facilities and corridors set up for seniors and differently-abled attendees. “The benchmark for this event is set to be the ‘Best’,” Sawant added.

Regarding infrastructure, Sawant announced that the Chimbel bypass will be completed before the event. The current expenditure stands at ₹200 crore, but Sawant indicated that it is expected to rise to ₹400 crore.

The novenas for the exposition will commence on November 24 and the event will continue for 45 days.
