CM Sawant launches Vigyan Setu, to be introduced in all Goa schools next academic year

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched Vigyan Setu, a science education outreach program aimed at fostering scientific curiosity and innovation among students in government primary schools.

The government now intends to roll out the initiative, launched on pilot basis in schools of Tiswadi taluka,  across all schools from the coming academic year.

Addressing the gathering, Sawant said the program, which began as a pilot project last year, has shown promising results and will be implemented across all schools in the coming academic year. He emphasized the need to inculcate scientific temperament among students and nurture the future scientists of the country.

Vigyan Setu serves as a bridge between government primary and high schools in Tiswadi Taluka, blending modern science with India's traditional knowledge systems. The initiative introduces students to scientific concepts through engaging activities like Vidyan Geet, Vidyan Katha, Vidyan Paheli, Vidyan Vichar, Vidyan Charcha, and Vidyan Khed. A dedicated learning space, Vidyan Corner, has also been set up, with a vision to transform them into Vigyan Kendras in the future.

Teachers will demonstrate simple science experiments linked to everyday life, providing practical explanations to help students understand real-life applications of scientific concepts. The program will also introduce basic principles of Yog, Ayurveda, Vedic Mathematics, and highlights contributions of ancient Indian scientists like Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, and Sushruta, instilling pride in India's rich scientific heritage.

Lauding the efforts of Vigyan Mitra teachers and students, Sawant said, "The dedication of our teachers and the innovative thinking of students and their parents prove that these young minds have the potential to become doctors, engineers, and scientists of tomorrow. With Vigyan Setu, we are laying the foundation for a scientifically progressive society."

The Chief Minister further congratulated two Goan students, Atharva Nilesh Surlakar and Farhan Rashid Sheikh, selected to showcase their projects at an international science exhibition in Japan in June, calling it a proud moment for the state.
