Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday asserted that strict action will be taken against all involved even as the cash for fake promise of government jobs scandal has attained wider proportions with multiple complaints pouring in.

“I assure 100% action in the fake government job cases. The government is very serious and will take strict action,” Sawant said during a press conference he addressed after chairing a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Sawant however said that people need to be alert and expressed surprise that some are willing to pay cash for a promise of a job in posts that are not even advertised.

“Some, even educated people, are willing to pay for posts which are not even advertised. People should remain alert,” Sawant said, adding that genuine government recruitment advertisements will soon be released through the Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC).

Sawant, who has faced stiff resistance from within his own cabinet for the decision to route all government recruitment in non-gazetted positions through the GSSC, asserted that the autonomous and independent recruiting commission, can singularly end corruption in recruitment.

The chief minister also claimed that the ‘con artists’ who pose as government representatives are unaffiliated with the government.

Meanwhile, Sawant while extending his greetings to the people for a safe and environment-friendly celebration of Diwali, cautioned against the revelry disturbing others, especially senior citizens.

Sawant further informed that the person held by FDA for spraying fruits with chemicals for artificial ripening at Mapusa yard will be put behind bars and his shop will be closed. FDA had held a Belagavi vendor operating from Mapusa yard for spraying 9 quintal banana with artificial fruit ripening chemical on Tuesday.
