PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has warned of disciplinary action against erring police personnel/officers while asking them to uphold public trust in them.
His statement comes while addressing the passing-out parade of the 49th batch of recruited police constables, ASI wireless operators, recruit police constable drivers, and excise personnel at Prerna Maidan, Police Training School in Valpoi today.
Sawant emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.“Those in uniform must uphold the trust of the people. The government will not tolerate any misconduct or forgive anyone. In the past, we have issued show cause notices, suspended and also terminated the erring police and excise officials. This action will continue,” he said.
Addressing the newly inducted personnel, Sawant stressed the importance of duty and integrity from day one. “When people look at the uniform, they respect it. You should also respect people and earn that respect in return,” he stated.
The CM also cautioned against the misuse of power by those in uniform. “Once in uniform, many might think they have power this could be new officers, excise officials, or even others selected in the police department, such as jail guards. Many have been terminated, and there will be no indifference when suspending others. So, don’t misuse your duty and uniform,” he reiterated.
Sawant also urged them to prioritise the nation and uphold the Constitution. “Do not be afraid while performing your duties, no matter the pressure. Follow the law, and if you ever have doubts, consult your seniors and seek their advice,” he said.
The passed-out personnel have been trained in law, fitness, handling unexpected situations, and dealing with people, skills they will use in their daily work.
