Leakage of CNG gas from a unit mounted on a vehicle which had come to deliver the gas to a fuel pump on the Mungul-Colva road triggered panic on Wednesday morning.
The leakage was finally plugged by the officials of the oil company in coordination with the Margao fire services.
The incident occurred around 9.55 am on Tuesday when the vehicle had come to the pump to deliver the CNG when the leakage came to light. As a safety precaution, the vehicle was manually moved away from the fuel pump, before company officials descended at the spot to plug the leakage.
Oil company officials termed the leakage as a minor incident and attributed the same to jerks during transportation.
A company official told The Goan that the officials conduct routine inspection of the vehicle every day to find leakages, if any, adding that minor leakage has developed because of jerks during transportation.
“What we have done immediately is that the valve which has developed the leakage has been plugged. We are in the process of releasing the gas in a controlled way. There is no direct escape of the gas. It should stop within 20 minutes”, he said.
The official further said that the leakage does not pose any danger to the hazardous area since the vehicle was shifted to an isolated place.
Margao Fire officer Gill D’Sa informed that the fire services received a call of leakage of CNG at the fuel pump.
“After our turn out, we have realised that the CNG leakage was found in the unit mounted on a vehicle. Inspection has revealed that the manifold has developed the leakage. They have managed to close the manifold. They are releasing the CNG in a controlled form”, he said.
