Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour hits a ‘Ticketing Snag’ for Indian fans

Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 is truly an ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’—but for fans in India, scoring tickets turned into more of a “Paradise lost.”

However, the much-anticipated event in India hit a snag on September 22, 2024, when BookMyShow's system crashed. Fans, eager to secure tickets for the British band’s Mumbai shows, were frustrated as the app and website became unresponsive just before the 12 pm sale. Set for January 18-19, 2025, at the 50,000-capacity DY Patil Sports Stadium, this concert marks Coldplay’s return to India after an eight-year hiatus, with sky-high expectations riding on it.

In fact, fans from Goa also logged into BookMyShow, eager to secure their tickets for the Coldplay concert. While a few managed to succeed, many were left disappointed. Anxious fans prepared well in advance of the midday sale, glued to their screens, with some waiting in the virtual queue for hours. Despite their best efforts, most were met with the disheartening message: ‘Not enough tickets.’

For many fans, booking Coldplay tickets was an emotional rollercoaster, filled with anticipation and hope. “Booking Coldplay tickets was a mix of excitement and frustration. We were all set, counting down the minutes, but the moment sales opened, it felt like chaos. In just seconds, the tickets were gone, leaving us disappointed,” said Ninoshka Fernandes.

Originally priced between ₹2,000 and ₹35,000, tickets have now resurfaced for exorbitant prices on resale platforms.

“I knew it would be difficult to secure the tickets due to the high demand, but my friend and I logged in well in advance, and we were behind 15 lakh people in the queue just seconds after the booking opened, we knew it would be difficult but still didn’t give up. Some who managed to secure the tickets are reselling them,” said Dylan Fernandes.

Fans have also raised concerns about technical glitches and unfair virtual queuing systems, with many reporting that they were placed behind other users in the queue despite checking in well before the official sale time.

These issues have sparked frustration and criticism toward BookMyShow, with many believing that the ticketing process was unfair and left them at a disadvantage.

In response, BookMyShow tweeted the announcement of an additional date for the Coldplay concert. In addition to January 18 and January 19, 2025, the band will now perform on January 21. However, that date also quickly sold out.

Adding to the frustration, some fans reported that a glitch on the platform led to accidental purchases of Bandland tickets worth over ₹20,000, leaving many disappointed.

Hotels in Mumbai have been overbooked well before the concert, with many fans securing rooms in hotels that offer a clear view of the stadium. The rush for accommodation has added another layer of excitement and anticipation, as fans scramble to lock in the best spots to experience the Coldplay event, even from afar.

Many fans are now holding out hope for a limited offer known as "Infinity Tickets." These special tickets aim to give fans a chance to attend the concert at a significantly reduced price, a move by the band to make their shows more accessible. The ‘Infinity’ tickets for the Coldplay concert will go live on November 22.
