Matheus Correia, popularly known as Comedian Selvy passed away at the Goa Medical College on Monday morning after a brief illness.
Selvy was being treated at GMC Bambolim since July 14 when he was admitted to the hospital after complaining of body ache and restlessness during the performance of a tiatr at Ravindra Bhavan Hall, Margao.
Selvy’s health condition deteriorated over the last few days with haemoglobin and blood sugar levels going significantly low.
On Monday morning his son sent out an emergency message on social media appealing to blood donors. “Matheus Correia is in need of blood. Please do help us in this difficult time. Also, please keep my dad in your prayers. Please pass this message and help us, it’s an emergency,” the message read. However, moments later, another message was posted informing about his demise.
The 48-year-old Selvy had recently released his tiatr ‘8 DIS’ which was marching towards golden jubilee and was scheduled for performance in London this month-end.
He leaves behind his wife, his tiatrist son Myron and younger son Ryan.
The tiatr fraternity was in shock on hearing the news of his demise and condolence messages poured in from all walks of life.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and a host of political leaders across parties and tiatr and stage artistes mourned the comedian who won the hearts of audiences with his stage performances.
