Locals forced to seek ambulance from Netravali
SANGUEM
Residents of Sanguem have expressed serious concerns regarding the unavailability of the 108 ambulance service at the Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sanguem.
The ambulance, which has been inactive for over a month, is currently lying idle in the PHC complex due to lack of a designated driver. This situation has caused distress among the local community, particularly in emergencies where timely medical assistance is critical.
In emergencies, locals have had to request ambulance services from Netravali, approximately 26 kms away from Sanguem. “This extended response time raises significant worries about the potential consequences for patients who require immediate care, as the delay could prove fatal in severe cases,” claimed a local Milton Fernandes.
The locals have urged the EMRI services for the immediate deployment of a driver to ensure the 108 ambulance service is operational at Sanguem PHC. Their plea underscores the urgent need for accessible emergency medical services, which are essential for public health and safety in the area.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai has acknowledged the issue and stated that upon being informed, he promptly contacted the relevant officials. He has assured the community that measures are being taken to address the problem.
According to Phal Dessai, the hospital authorities did not previously communicate the non-functional status of the ambulance, which has contributed to the hardship faced by locals.
