Over a decade and half after a landslide buried as many as 11 labourers from Uttar Pradesh at Dicarpale, mud and debris has come sliding down from the hillock onto the main road, raising concerns over the development.
Salcete Joint Mamlatdar Rosario Carvalho descended at Dicarpale in Davorlim village at the landslide site as the administration deployed workers to clear the mud and debris that spilled onto the main road.
Rosario has informed that the officials have told the workers staying on rent at a carpentry workshop to move to a safer place as a precautionary measure. He said the administration has issued instructions to the PWD officials to start work on desilting of the drains at the base of the hillock.
“The PWD will start the work of desilting of the drains from Monday. Once the drain is desilted, water flowing down from the hillock will drain in a smooth manner,” he said.
The administration has built a wall at the base of the hillock alongside the main road as a precautionary measure after the landslide to ensure that debris and boulders do not roll down from the hillock and come on the road.
