The stipulated age limit for government employees seeking to apply for vacancies in the recently advertised Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) positions has resulted in minor confusion.
Despite notification asserting that government employees possess the prerogative to submit their applications up to the age of 40 years, a number of applicants have encountered challenges in completing their online submissions.
The online application system is not accommodating these candidates beyond 35 years of age with some government officials, including those attached to the police department, unable to advance to another page in the application procedure.
As per the official notification, applicants from the general category should not exceed 30 years as on the last date of the receipt of the application, while those from reserved categories enjoy the privilege of an extended age relaxation of up to 35 years. Likewise, applicants employed in the government are granted the opportunity to apply up to the age of 40 years.
A senior technical expert in the Goa Public Service Commission clarified that the age relaxation concession for government employees extends to a maximum of 5 years, which means eligibility is up to 35 years, whereas a further increase in the age limit is only applicable if he/she belongs to any reserved category.
“Any advertisement for vacancies in government departments specifies the age limit. Some candidates are granted relaxation, if they belong to the reserved category such as OBC, SC, ST and PwDs, etc. This is also applicable for government servants who are granted a maximum relaxable age of five years as per the government order from time to time. If the employee applicant belongs to the reserved category, he/she is granted further relaxation,” the official stated.
The GPSC on August 25 advertised the process of direct recruitment of 28 posts for DySPs. Of these, 14 are in the unreserved category, eight for OBC, four for ST, and two for EWS. The deadline for filling up the applications is September 8.
Unlike Junior Scale Officers in the Goa Civil Service, the age limit for DySPs is 30 years in the unreserved category while all candidates have to undergo and pass the physical fitness test as mandated in the Goa Police Rules 2022.
The last batch of directly recruited DySPs was 25 years ago, in 1998 through the GPSC.
