Belagavi
Congress leaders from Goa will participate in the Congress party’s national rally, titled ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’, on Tuesday. Senior Congress leaders and numerous party workers from across the country are expected to attend the rally at the CPEd Ground in Belagavi.
Addressing the media in Belagavi, AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala announced that senior leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge will be present at the event.
The rally was originally planned for December 27 last year but was postponed due to the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. After attending the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Belagavi on 26 December, many leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, travelled to New Delhi for Singh’s funeral.
Surjewala highlighted the historical significance of Belagavi to the Congress party, mentioning the 1924 Congress session chaired by Mahatma Gandhi. This was the only session presided over by Gandhi and included prominent leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The upcoming rally aims to address what the Congress describes as ongoing attacks on the Constitution by the BJP. Surjewala accused Home Minister Amit Shah of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution during a parliamentary session on 17 December. “The BJP has repeatedly undermined constitutional values, violated constitutional rights, and disregarded Ambedkar’s principles,” he said.
He further stated that the rally represents a stand against such “fascist forces” and reaffirms the Congress party’s commitment to protecting the Constitution.
A similar rally will be held in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh—Dr. Ambedkar’s birthplace—on 27 January.
Surjewala also noted that the 1924 Congress session in Belagavi played a key role in strengthening the freedom movement, ultimately leading to India’s independence. “This rally, taking place 100 years later, will inspire a new direction for the nation,” he concluded.
Traffic plan for rally announced
Belagavi: Belagavi is gearing up to host the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ convention on January 21, which will see the arrival of prominent Congress leaders and thousands of party workers from across the country. To ensure the event runs smoothly, significant traffic regulations will be in place. The road from the Railway Overbridge towards Chenamma Circle and Club Road will remain closed for most of the day, except for vehicles participating in the convention. Traffic will be diverted via Goaves to Bhatkande School and Shani Mandir to access Belagavi city and beyond. Additionally, the movement of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 5:00 am on Tuesday until the event concludes that evening.
“These measures have been implemented to ensure the event proceeds seamlessly while minimising inconvenience to regular commuters,” said Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang.
He urged visitors and residents to cooperate with traffic officials and follow the guidelines. The Traffic Department of Belagavi City has requested everyone to adhere to the updated traffic arrangements to help ensure the smooth conduct of the convention.
