The Seva Dal of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 95th anniversary of the Dandi March at Gandhi Circle, Old Goa, on Wednesday.
Several speakers spoke about the event in which Mahatma Gandhi defied the orders of the British and led the march against the ban on the production of salt by the locals.
The speakers also said that this was the first such civil disobedience movement against British rule, which inspired many to join the freedom movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira said that today, too, people are living under an oppressive regime like the British.
“The current regime is also an oppressive one, with various taxes imposed on the common man,” Adv Ferreira stated and urged that people should fight it just like Mahatma Gandhi did.
Former GPCC president Girish Chodankar, senior vice-president M. K. Shaikh, Seva Dal leader Rajan Ghate, and others also spoke on the occasion.
