MARGAO
The Margao Congress Block has strongly criticised the Electricity Department for planning a power shutdown on 19th and 21st November 2024.
Congress leader Savio Coutinho has called for the rescheduling of the shutdowns, as they coincide with important religious events — the eve of the Feast Day and the second day of the Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim.
He expressed shock that the Electricity Department has proposed power outages from 9 am to 3 pm on both days, which fall during the Novena and Feast celebrations. Coutinho highlighted that a notice dated 14th November 2024 stated the shutdown is for replacing LV boards, feeder pillars, and service pillars in the Sirvodem area. “Couldn’t this work be done on other days? Why schedule it during Feast days?” he questioned.
He further emphasised: “The Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, is one of the most significant churches in South Goa, attracting people of all faiths. A power shutdown during these days will severely disrupt everyone.”
Coutinho strongly demanded that the planned outages in Colmorod (behind Navelim Church) and Sirvodem areas, as mentioned in the notice, be rescheduled to other dates.
