Dozens of contractual meter readers working with the Goa Electricity Department (GED) will have their contracts renewed in due course, a senior official said, attributing “administrative oversight” for the lapse of their contracts in October this year.
“It is an administrative issue. The department definitely needs their services,” a senior engineer familiar with the matter at the GED headquarters said.
The official said the number of contractual meter readers whose contracts had expired in October is approximately 100.
“They will all be retained. We will now issue fresh ‘work orders’ to them effective from the date their previous contracts expired,” the official said.
These meter readers, operating across the State meanwhile had continued to work since October unsure of their status and without being paid their salaries.
